The Monastery of Preveli, a few km far from our residences, is a historic and picturesque Eastern Orthodox monastery. In a dramatic setting, perched on a hill overlooking the Libyan Sea surrounded by lush palm forests and situated at the mouth of the Kourtaliotiko Gorge.

Preveli Monastery dates back to the 16th century, during the Venetian occupation of Crete. It played a crucial role in various historical events, including the Cretan struggles against the Ottoman Empire and during WW II and is open to visitors as it I one of the most popular tourist attractions on Crete.

Many visitors come to explore the monastery's architecture, religious artifacts, and the nearby beach and palm forest.
